概要

提利昂到达御前会议大厅门口，却不得不靠威胁曼登·穆尔爵士才得以进门。他向太后展示了父亲的信，信中指派提利昂暂时接管国王之手的职务。瑟曦对提利昂的在场感到不安，厉声道应该是他们的父亲率领大军回到红堡。提利昂要和姐姐私下说句话，于是会议上的旁人纷纷离开。

私下里，提利昂得知瑟曦仅仅囚禁了珊莎·史塔克，而艾莉亚·史塔克业已脱逃，八成现在已经没命了。他又问她是否信任御前会议的几位重臣，因为父亲怀疑他们心怀不轨。乔佛里刚上任没几天闯出的祸就已经多的数不完。瑟曦说本来计划让他网开一面让艾德·史塔克穿上黑衣，但他擅自决定要砍艾德大人的头。另外，是小指头出的主意封杰诺斯·史林特为朝廷重臣，这在提利昂看来又是愚蠢的一步。他还得知当时是珊莎告密导致艾德谋反失败，是瓦里斯的提议将巴利斯坦·赛尔弥从御林铁卫中革职。提利昂警告她如果“无畏的”巴利斯坦与罗柏·史塔克或者史坦尼斯·拜拉席恩并肩作战，那将会使他们实力大增。

提利昂告诉她如果让乔佛里感觉到威胁就会比较容易听话，而乔佛里知道他妈妈是绝不会伤害他的。提利昂向瑟曦表明自己任她差遣，未经她的同意不会擅自行动。当他问起瑟曦是谁杀了琼恩·艾林，瑟曦说她并不知情。她继续说道艾德·史塔克当时问了她同样的话，暗示艾林大人怀疑她……“乱伦”，提利昂代她说完，随即被赏了一记耳光。提利昂对她说他一直都知道，不像他们的父亲那样瞎了眼。瑟曦解释了他们如何杀掉了劳勃国王：在他们对付野猪之前蓝赛尔递给他比平常喝的烈上三倍的酸红酒。提利昂离开了议事厅，让他姐姐的侍卫队长维拉尔护送他到破铁砧。提利昂命令维拉尔把城墙上的人头取下来，交给静默修女会清洗。

随着他们骑马穿行于城市中，提利昂注意到战乱对人民产生的影响。维拉尔告诉他运进城的粮食少得可怜。

史林特已将都城守备队的人数增加到以前的三倍，太后则派了一千名工匠兴建投石车等防御工事。炼金术士公会也愿意提供一万罐野火。

当提利昂挤进旅店大厅去见雪伊时发现瓦里斯已经在那里了。瓦里斯说他突然想来瞧瞧这位年轻小姐。提利昂意识到这太监此行是在威胁对自己的弱点了如指掌。两人在对话中互相传达着警告与威胁。瓦里斯离开前给提利昂出了个谜语，关于一个国王，一个僧侣和一个富翁分别给同一个佣兵下达杀了其他二人的命令，究竟谁死谁活？雪伊说是富翁活下来，但提利昂不确定，说那取决于佣兵。

Tyrion realizes that the eunuch is indirectly threatening him by showing he knows Tyrion's weakness. The two exchange some veiled warnings / threats. Before Varys leaves he poses a riddle to Tyrion, of a king, a priest and a rich man who each command a sellsword to kill the other two. Varys asks Tyrion who lives and who dies, and then takes his leave. Shae says it is the rich man who lives, but Tyrion is not so sure, saying it depends on the sellsword.
